I'd consider myself a pretty "safe" person. I don't like being in situations where I feel vulnerable, I function best when I have planned out my days, and when it comes to decisions I more often than not will choose the option that is more familiar and less risky to me. Other than midnight TP-ing and random drives to UCLA with Emily, I ultimately wouldn't consider myself a very spontaneous person... which is why my spur of the moment trip to Utah is something worth blogging about.
Yes, ladies and gentleman, you heard me correctly. It all started last weekend and most of Monday when a series of frustrating events left me dying for a simple couple days to get away, escape, and really clear my head (and my stress levels.) So, with inspiration from my ex-boyfriend-turned-friend, Mr. Rabbit, Tuesday morning I packed up my little Hyundai and drove off to Provo to see a small number of dearly beloved friends. 12 hours and a large number of musicals later, I was back to the land of my undergraduate degree with lots of Katy Perry to greet me.
Wednesday was really exciting because I was able to meet up with my friend Jake from freshman year. My freshman year of college I had a really good group of friends, however, as the Fates would have it, most of said friends were males and left on missions as the year ended. Jake was one of such males, so it was the first time I was able to see him in two years and it was awesome. Also, I was able to meet up with my old roommate Caitlin and revisit the depths and darkness of the realm ruled over by the evil Anthony Ramon--a place more formally recognized as my old apartment at U.A.C. Caitlin, Jake and I all went to Happy Sumo which was fabulous because I was able to get the Mango Mama roll aka one of the best sushi rolls on the planet. Yes, I was happy.

After sushi, I met up with my dearly beloved Juan (not to be confused with John the Beloved) at Yogurtland, which is always delicious. I ended the night with some Costa Vida and a night spent helping my younger sister break up with her boyfriend. All in all, I'd say it was a successful day.
Thursday I became re-acquainted with Gold's Gym and hit up Yogurtland again with The Game Show Host (who will never not be the funniest person on the planet) and Caitlin. Before Yogurtland, however, I was thrilled to receive this little gem on my iPhone:
I don't know how many of you watch Gossip Girl, but for all the doubters, I'm an avid fan and can confirm this is indeed a legitimate Gossip Girl blast. So, as the text would have it, I did indeed have a very "spicy" date later that night consisting of Mr. Rabbit, Milagro's delicious Mexican food, BYU campus, and of course, more Yogurtland. Listen, I like frozen yogurt, alright? And Blair Waldorf does too. Well, she likes regular yogurt at least...
Friday morning I packed up all my crap and had breakfast at Kneader's with Juan. I love Juan.
After filling my car with some of my sister's junk I was finally able to get out on the road to drive back home to Cali. On the way home I received my section assignment and my class schedule for law school (no I was not on my phone while driving, why do you ask?) and am now so freaking excited to start!
Law school is a bit different than regular college in the sense that you are put in small sections so that all of your classes are with the same group of students--the people that you are ultimately competing against for the top grade. So, you don't choose your own schedule, it's all pre-determined and just handed to you. And with the way my classes are organized--Intro to the Study of Law, Civil Procedure I, Criminal Law, Torts, and Lawyering Skills--I am quite happy with my section assignment (especially since my earliest class is at 9AM.) It's weird how real this is all becoming. Really weird. But a good kind of weird, don't worry.
I stopped half way in Las Vegas to meet up with dear Caitlin who had driven back home to Las Vegas the day before. The last time I went to Vegas I was pretty young and I only really remember the Medieval Times-like show that we saw in the Excalibur hotel. But it's so exciting! I felt like I was at Disneyland. Well, raunchy Disneyland. Caitlin and I had dinner at Planet Hollywood at Caesar's Palace where there was some seriously terrible comedy routine going on the entire time. After we ate we spent some time at the massive H&M that they have there. I may or may not have made a couple purchases. I promise I won't do it again.

I ended up heading back on the road at 10PM which probably wasn't the smartest thing to do considering I had only had 5 hours of sleep the night prior and was starting to feel like I was coming down with some sickness ever since I had really arrived in Utah. What also wasn't the smartest thing to do was to combine a number of medicines to help me feel better (sore throats = no bueno) with an energy drink and a Diet Coke to help me stay awake. Why? Well, because as a result, after arriving home at three and finally falling asleep around four, I woke up at seven this morning feeling the most nauseous I have probably ever felt in my entire life and have been in bed hating life ever since. Fortunately, I have good friends who were there to try to help remedy me via cellular communication or else I would have probably been feeling a lot worse.
So, here I am, bumming around, trying to start my reading assignments for law school, waiting for my body to heal. At the end of the day though, I have to admit, my little spontaneous vacation to Utah was so worth it. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I left Provo, but sometimes there really is nothing like spending time with the small number of people who really mean something to you and who always remind you that there are good people in the world and that with a little perspective things never really are as bad as they seem. So, I'd say it was worth the 21 hours of driving and the extreme sickness. Ok, maybe it was just worth the 21 hours of driving.
