The End.

I did it.

Through all of the stress, all of the tears, all of the "I'm-dropping-out"s, and all of the outlines, I did it! I finished my first year of law school. Honestly, it feels like I'm graduating college. That's the type of accomplishment this feels like. Except in undergrad I really didn't work 1/3 as hard as I did this past year.

It still hasn't really sunk in yet that I am DONE. But that's probably because although I am finished with the horror that is finals, the write-on competition to get on Law Review has officially started. Basically, everyone has until Friday to write a memo and the best writers get put on Law Review and a couple of other legal journals next year. It's a big deal, and everyone does it. So until this thing is off of my plate, I won't be able to say that I am completely free. But for now, the hardest part really is over--so, yay!

My first year of law school was one of the best years of my life and one of the worst years of my life all in one. Although I love complaining about it--I really do love law school. Going through my first year, if anything, has made me feel so incredibly smart. I remember when I was studying for Con Law and everything was finally coming together for me for the first time and I simply felt smart. It was the best feeling--being able to think "I GET IT." It was like this rush of adrenaline and immense feeling of self-satisfaction. But seriously, these classes are hard. Very hard. And so when you get to the point where you really feel like you really deeply understand something like the back of your hand, it's the greatest. I came to law school to learn, and I can happily and confidently say that I have learned a lot.

Law school has also taught me of how incredibly capable I am for success. I haven't succeeded the way Audrey Olson likes to succeed many times in law school--but the few times that I have, I have really succeeded. And those few times have meant everything to me. Even more so, they have taught me that the only thing standing in my way is myself; that with the right amount of self-discipline, hard work, and sincere dedication, I can have almost everything that I want in this life.

The biggest impact on my life this past year though were the people that I met. There were some crazies in my section, but there were also many incredibly kind people. I have loved (most of) the people that I was able to meet in law school. Even more so I have loved my little group I found in the La Jolla Ward. And of course, I will forever love Ryan Civiello.

But above all, for this past year, I have had the privilege of being able to know and love one of the most incredible people I have and probably will ever meet in my entire life. Due to a series of (ok, more like one) unfortunate circumstances, Michael and I have decided to go our separate ways. And despite everything, I am simply so ridiculously grateful for our truly wonderful relationship and how much it taught me about myself and what I want in my life. Regardless of what my grades end up being this semester, the Notebook said it the best: I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived. I've loved another with all my heart and soul and for me that will always be enough.

This chapter of my life that is now ending has been a big one. I don't know what is in store for me now other than lots of time with friends and family, lots of lovely time laying out and relaxing by the pool, and a killer internship in June. Perhaps I'll run another half marathon? I'll figure it out, I always do. But for now, I have a memo to write. Farewell 1L life, you've been far too good for me.

As for my 2L life, well, here's to whatever comes next.
